The management might offer us a decent pay rise. Pigs might fly! buy a pig in a poke (未见实物而)乱买东西(吃了亏) Youll have to show me the car; I dont intend to buy a pig in a poke 与猪有关的英语谚语 很早以前我就懂得,永远不要与猪争斗。 I learned long ago, never to wrestle with a pig. You get dirty, and besides, the pig likes it A famed person and a fattened pig are alike in danger. People are afraid of being famed just as the pig is afraid of being fat. Do you think Mary will quit her job now that shes pregnant? Yeah, when pigs fly! There is no way she is giving up her career! Get in someones hair 如果你get in someones hair,你并没有爬到别人的头上! Susan was trying to prepare dinner, but her children were getting in her hair! Get out of my hair! When Carols son got an F on his report card, she hit the ceiling! Knock someones socks off You should see Toms new car! Itll knock your socks off, its so amazing! She had to bite the bullet and give in to her bosss unreasonable demands. Drive someone up a wall 车是不能开到墙上去的,那么谁能drive you up a wall? My mom is driving me up a wall! She wont ever let me stay out late.

Part ⅠWriting
On Chinese Workers’Paid Holidays
In 2007, the Chinese government released a draft that all employees of government organs, civil organizations, enterprises, and public-service institutions are entitled to take paid vacation after serving the same employer for one year. Some have sufficient faith that the paid holidays will improve the current tourism pattern. The new holiday scheme will give people more choices to make their holiday plans and thus it will greatly alleviate the pressure of transportation departments, security bodies, shopping malls, ect. during the current holiday boom.
Other people wonder if the new system will be available. It is likely to be a dream to have a paid holiday. Because the problem is that many people don’t dare to take long vacations. Competition is fierce. Nobody can afford a long holiday and leave the boss with an impression of not working as hard as others.
For me, I think it is necessary for, in future, the state to issue a regulation concerning Chinese workers-paid holidays. Stregthen the employers’ sense of the paid holidays. If they did so voluntarily, it will attract and retain employees. With these measures, it is expected that more employees in China are entitled to receive holiday pay for time off.

The Real-name Train Ticket Purchase System Launched
The Real-name Train Ticket Purchase System Launched
With the largest population in the world and an underdeveloped railway system, China is notorious for making train tickets particularly hard to purchase for ordinary citizens, especially during the Spring Festival when the railway is the primary means of transportation. As a result, ticket scalpers have proliferated, monopolizing a large quantity of tickets by either hiring people to buy tickets or conspiring with the ticket sellers within the railway stations.
As the entire nation’s outrage over ticket scarcity keeps mounting, the Chinese government has introduced the drastic measure that citizens purchase train tickets with valid personal IDs. The system is designed primarily to crack down on ticket scalpers whose business has developed into a major industry. By allowing each individual to buy only one ticket, the system seeks to make tickets accessible to people in real need, rather than controlled by a small number of profit-seeking and illegal scalpers.
However, this reformatory measure, while somewhat easing ticket scarcity, creates new problems. Buyers find the whole buying process troublesome and time-consuming. When boarding the train, the passenger who forgets to bring his valid ID certificate will be denied access to the train. I believe the introduction of each new system is coupled with shortcomings and there must be ways to improve the system as it is enforced. Of course, we look forward to the day when China’s railway networks are so sufficiently developed that tickets are readily available to anyone at any time.

Extravagant Spending on College Campus
According to a survey, in recent years the monthly expenditure of a college student has been on the sharp rise. Many college students spend money like water and have no concept of thrift in their mind. They take it for granted that they spend money from their parents before they enter into the society. This extravagant spending is mainly caused by the following factors.
First of all, nowadays most of students are the only children of their families. They are the apple in their family’s eyes and naturally get more care and pocket money. Secondly, with the improvement of living standard, parents can afford higher expenditure of their children. Thirdly, some students like to pursue fashion and trends, which tends to need more money. Finally, campus love is also a possible factor causing extravagant spending.
From my point of view, a college student, as a pure consumer, should learn to be thrifty. We should limit our expenditure on daily necessities but not buy whatever we want regardless of their prices. The habit of thrift can help us form right values and is favorable to our future development.

Why People Migrate to Another Country?
Many people choose to live in a foreign country, which has aroused great concern. Nowadays, more and more people, especially plenty of intellectuals, migrate to some developed countries, such as America, England and Canada. In addition, there are still many people studying and working in foreign countries struggling for “green cards”. There are many reasons accounting for this phenomenon.
Among all these factors, pursuing high-quality life plays a critical role. Moreover, most of them migrate to some foreign countries with a view to making their children receive good education there. Besides, some people just want to experience a different culture they like. All these above factors contribute to their choice to migrate to another country.
As far as I am concerned, though I enjoy various cultures all over the world, I won’t migrate to another country. For one thing, I don’t like to live far from my friends and relatives. For another, I can’t bear to speak and listen to a foreign language from day to night. In a word, everyone has his right to decide where to live, and everyone’s choice should be respected.

Social Practice of College Students
Nowadays many universities encourage and organize students to take part in social practice activities. During the holidays, more and more students choose to be the volunteers, take part-time jobs, or take part in other practical activities alike. It’s obvious that social practice is playing a more and more important role in China’s college education.
Undoubtedly, college students have benefited a lot from social practice. Above all, they are provided with more opportunities to contact the real world outside the campus. Moreover, in social practice activities, students can apply their knowledge to the solution to the practical problems. So their practical skills are improved greatly. Besides, social practice helps strengthen students’ sense of social responsibility.
Considering the above-mentioned, I think, it is necessary for college students to participate in social practice. However, social practice may bring some problems. For example, some students spend too much time in taking part-time jobs so as to ignore their study. Therefore, we should try to balance the relationship between social practice and study.

Put Down Your Smartphone
It is often said that smartphones have made our lives easier. Thanks to these handy devices, we can take our work with us anywhere. However, this isn’t necessarily a good thing.
A recent survey found that two-thirds of officeworkers continued to work on their smartphones outside office hours. These so-called “screen slaves” are glued to their smartphones on the way home and at home. This can lead to health problems. For example, using a smartphone on the train or sofa can cause back and neck pain. What’s more, looking at a small screen for a long time can cause vision problems.
In Taiwan, there was even a man who lost the use of his index finger because he played games on his smartphone for up to six hours a day. People who use their smartphones too often also complain of headaches, increased stress, and losing sleep at night. So perhaps we need to learn to be less dependent on our smartphones, and put them down once in a while.
