In the Industrial Revolution age, the word “smog” came into view. Smog is common in large urban areas, especially during hot, sunny weather, where it appears as a brownish haze.
So what is the cause of smog? The air pollutants that make up smog mainly come from burning fossil fuels, natural gas and coal in our cars, truck, home furnaces, industries and power plants , we are sending pollutants into air. Ozone, the main ingredient in smog, is formed when two pollutants combine in the presence of sun light.
Chinese media say that although some of the smog can be attributed to wintry weather condition, the human contribution is one of the biggest factors. The China Daily said there are also not enough green areas in the city to help sock up the fumes discharged by vehicles industries. It has also been rapid industrialization in China and a heavy reliance on coal power, which have both contributed to the problem.
Smog is very dangerous, which can worsen heart problems, asthma, bronchitis and other lung problems. Smog reduces lung function in healthy people. It also irritates eyes, nose and throat. Other effects on agriculture, economy, traffic and so on. Smog affects everyone, especially children. Hello,everyone,today I am going to talk something about the smog and haze in China. Recently,Smog has been a hot topic at the two
sessions in the Premier Li Keqiang’s Government Work Report. And in general,I’d like to organize my speech from 2 aspects.First, about the current situation of the smog and haze in our country.According to the China Daily’s newspaper on March 13 this year, all 74 major Chinese cities’ air quality have met the national standards for clear air on 241 days on average last year. Nowadays, people in China become worried and feared when talking about smog. And as we all know, smog is a type of air pollution, it's caused by a large number of coal combustion within a city, also it contains soot particulates from smoke, sulfur dioxide and other components. But with the development of economy, smog is a serious problem in China, it effects everyone's daily life and continues to harm human health. In China, a number of people would not go out without an anti-dust mask. And many studies show that smog is especially harmful to senior citizens, children and people with heart and lung conditions such as emphysema, bronchitis, and asthma, and many premature deaths are due to cancer and respiratory disease.
So it's high time to protect the environment. As a person who is living in such a poor environment, we should appeal to each other to fight against air pollution, particularly the smog.
