I won’t be able to’t come in today. / I can’t come to work today./ Do you mind if I take tomorrow off?
1. I don’t feel well / I feel ill / I feel awful / I’m not
feeling myself.
2. I think I’ve got the flu / I’ve caught a cold. 3. I have a headache / My head hurts.
4. My wife has suddenly fallen ill, and I’ve to
take her to hospital.
sick today / He called to say he’s sick today / He’s off sick today . 1. 上班:come in
I won’t be able to come back today 。 Has Mr. Chan come in ? 不可说Has Mr. Chan returned ? 3.
* She will come back from lunch in an hour. * I won’t come back till 20 April.
Under the weather
1: "Mr. Jones, this is Sally Smith. I'm sorry, but I can't come to work today — I'm feeling a little under the weather."
例句-2: "Miss Smith? This is Mister Jones here. Could you please cancel my appointments for today? I'm feeling under the weather so I'm going to stay home. I hope I see you tomorrow." Down with a bug
例句-1: "Susan, this is John. I'm sorry, but Helen and I are both down with this darn bug that's going around, so I'm afraid we won't be able to come to dinner tonight." 例句-2: "Doctor, this is John Smith. I think I'd better come in to see you for a check-up. I don't know what's wrong with me. I'm afraid I am down with a bug."
To: Peter Stone, Manager
From: Lynn Chen, Financial Department Date: April 2nd, 2004
Subject: Casual Leave of Absence{
Peter, I would like to know if I could ask for a casual leave of absence for one day on April 4th, this Wednesday.
This morning I received a telephone call from my dentist, urging me to come to his practice for immediate treatment of my teeth. I have been experiencing a stinging pain, depriving me of my sleep during the past fortnight. The situation could worsen, should infection occur.
Concerning my workload: As Wednesday is not as busy as the other weekdays, I think a one-day leave this Wednesday may be the best solution. I apologize for the inconvenience my absence from work may cause.
Thanks. I will call you at 1:30p.m. or you can call me at any time.
