Dear headmasters, teachers, classmates and friends: Im very proud that I have chosen to speak to you all today, Im a bit nervous as Ive never made a speech before to so many people ,so please forgive me if it shows. As we all know, the environment around us is getting worse and worse .In some places we cant see fish swimming in the river or trees on the hills. Some people even have no clean water to drink. So I think we must do something to protect the environment. .But what can we do? How to protect our environment ? For example ,we can go to school on foot or by bike . we can use shopping baskets not plastic bags .when we go shopping and we can use both sides of the paper when we write .In a word ,if everyone pays more attention to our environment ,there will be less pollution and our life will be better. “There is only one earth”, I hope everyone will protect our environment well. The first thing we can do is to use cloth bags in stead of plastic bags when we go shopping. It helps to protect the environment. How to improve our environment
Nowadays, environment issues are no longer things that would just appear in newspapers and TVs, lectures and reports. They are becoming more and more materialized in our daily lives. For example, a few months ago, a foggy day made most of the citizens in Beijing frightened because of the so called PM2.5. People were afraid of the polluted air and chose to stay at home. Saving the environment is extremely urgent! As we all know, a new conception named “low carbon life” was proposed in recent years and I think it would be a reasonable way to solve our environment crisis.
As a student, we can figure out what benefits can be gained when we transfer this conception into a real existence, a low carbon campus. This simple shift of perspective can actually transform what used to be quite far away into something that is just around us.
Take the use of electronic devices for example, when we choose to climb the stairs instead of using an elevator, when we prefer bicycles to cars, we are doing something fantastic for ourselves. Think about these activities as exercises that would not only keep us physically fit, but also spiritually energetic. If we turn off the computer when they are not in use, or even limit the hours we spend in front of them, we are not only saving the electricity, but also doing a favor to our body, preventing ourselves from too much exposure to radiation and other possible harms caused by computer. We can gain at the same tine a healthy and pain-free neck, and avoid sore muscles, worsening eyesight and so on. When we use natural wind, rather than fans or air conditioner to feel cool in summer, we are also reducing the possibilities of all the illness related to the electronic devices.
What we eat can also contribute to the establishment of a low carbon campus. More vegetables and less meat mean that less carbon will be emitted in the process of producing and preparing for such foods. And this can also translate to a more balanced diet and healthier eating habits. Then many problems, such as overweight, tiredness or even high blood pressure and heart disease can be controlled to a certain extent when we get older. And this good eating habit actually benefits us for a life time, and what starts at campus goes a long way.
From the above analysis, we can get the basic idea that when we are doing something to reduce the carbon campus, but at the same time, we are make positive changes for oueselves.

How to protect our environment
With the rapid development of our society, various kinds of problems come into existence. As far as l am concerned,we are not a bit unfamiliar with these terms:desertification,acid rain, global warming, city heating-land effect, oil leak,all of which are closely connected with human beings more or less.They are chiefly caused by unreasonable acts made by human beings,which in turn does great harm to our heath.
We are faced with flocks of environmental problems at present;some of them are not a little urgent or lethal.But how onearth do these big headaches comeup?What steps should be taken to tackle it?Well,in my view, well hope, should take necessary measures as soon as possible. We’d rack our brains to check the population.However,there are likely to be a breaking point .The more people there are, the more consumption and thus the more pollutant will be produced.
Besides,we, on the other hand, are encouraged to try our best to develop new energy such as solar energy or something like this. What’s more, we can eliminate pollution by saving energies, reducing harmful emissions from vehicles exhausts and power stations. In the meanwhile, we may as well try bettering transport and go to work by bus or by bike or simply on foot instead of in a car.
Apart from these, we are to be far-sighted enough to protect the forests from being cut, rivers and lakes from being contaminated. At the same time, it would be better if more trees and grass be planted, animals safeguarded, arable lands properly used.
Last but not least, with the globalization advancing forward, environmental protecting is expected to be globalized, too.That is,we, for all different nations,races,colors,religions, can join hands together to deal with the problems based on common interest, mutual trust and understanding.
