  A

My idea of perfect childhood memory is one in which the person remembers the event clearly as if it happened yesterday and remembers it as being a happy time. Of all my memories I have one that I would consider a perfect childhood memory.

In my neighborhood there is a large lake with a small island in the center of it for as long as I could remember. It had been every child's dream to get to it, It was to be our greatest adventure. We named it Alligator Island, because of the alligators(鳄鱼) that were removed to live on the island and in the surrounding lake.

One day when I was about 10 years old, I was helping my friend Erika clean out her garage and we discovered a blow-up raft(皮筏). Naturally we had to wonder if it would stay a float in the water, so we decided to blow it up and find out. After a few hours of taking expelling the wind from our lungs, the rubber boat was finally ready to test. We took it to the pool and some enough, it did float. Immediately we began making plans to visit Alligator Island with our new means of transportation.

We decided to ask Erika's brother and another of our friends to come with us. Since the lake was across the street from Erika's house, we did not have to pull the raft far and soon we were on our way to the island.

About halfway to A1 we began to get nervous about the possibility of alligators really being in the lake and we tried to turn around, but none of us knew how to use the paddles very well. After a few attempts, we realized how silly we were and continued onward. When we finally did reach the small land mass, it was not anything special. Just a few trees, some dirt, and insects. But the excitement and pleasure of actually achieving our goal were al we needed.

Needless to say, we were the envy of the neighborhood for quite some time. This is my perfect childhood memory and it is something I doubt I will ever forget for as long as I live.

  56. According to the passage, such a memory is the most unforgettable to the author because ______.

  C. the author has finally realized the dream of going to the island

  D. the author has been proved to be very intelligent during their adventure

  A. Fearful. B. Regretful. C. Happy. D. Guilty.

  58. The island is called Alligator Island because ______.

  A. there are alligators on the island

  B. there are alligators off the island

  C. the shape of the island is like an alligator

  D. it is said that there are alligators on the island

  59. What was the response of the author's neighborhood to the adventure?

  A. They admired those kids.

  B. They showed satisfaction.

  C. They were astonished by their courage.

  D. They showed worry and scolded the kids.

  60. Which would be a good title for this passage?

  A. A Childhood Full of Adventures

  B

What do Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson and Philcollins all have in common? They were all bullied(欺负)at school.

If you’re being bullied, it doesn’t mean there is something wrong with you. You have a right to feel safe. If you are being bullied at school, it is the school’s responsibility to stop it. If you are being attacked outside of school, the police have the responsibility to help you.

The bully is the one with the problem.

A lot of bullies are already being bullied themselves. They feel powerless and so they look for ways to feel tough at school or in the street.

Often, the bully is envious of other kids, so he picks on those who are cleverer, or those kids who have cool dress or more money. Usually bullies don’t like themselves, so they take out their frustrations(沮丧)on someone else, e.g. you.

  What can you do?

  * Look calm and confident even when you are not! You can practice this in the bathroom mirror.

  * If possible, ignore the bully. Bullies want a reaction(反应)—if you don’t seem upset, or angry, they’ll often leave you alone.

  * Walk away. Just because a bully starts an argument doesn’t mean you have to hang around and finish it.

  * Avoid being alone. Bullies are cowards(懦夫)who only pick a fight when they know they can win. If you are with friends, they are more likely to leave you alone.

  Get help!

Tell an adult you can trust. This doesn’t mean you are weak. In life you often need to get help from other people. When you have a broken leg, you get help from a doctor—it doesn’t mean you are weak. If you are being bullied you also get help. Bullies want you to keep quiet. When you speak up, you refuse to play the bully’s game. Telling others about the problem is a brave move.

  61. In the first paragraph, the author intends to _________.

  A. name several students who were bullied

  B. tell us being bullied is a common problem at school

  C. what the three students have in common

  D. warn people of the three bullies

  62. Bullies are usually those who _________.

  A. are stupid B. are poor

  C. are full of envy D. have more power

  63. To avoid bullies, you are advised to _________.

  A. be calm and confident B. react bravely and show your confidence

  C. hang around and argue with them D. stay with friends always

  64. The underlined word ;ignore” probably means _________.

  A. fight B. stop C. pay no attention to D. talk with

  65. With the underlined sentence in the last paragraph, the author gives us an example of ____.

  A. how to get help from doctors B. people being weak sometimes

  C. what people do in trouble D. getting help when necessary

  C

A year ago, Dave Fuss lost his job driving a truck for a small company in west Michigan. His wife, Gerrie, was still working in the local school cafeteria, but work for Dave was scarce, and the price of everything was rising. The Fusses were at risk of joining the millions of Americans who have lost their homes in recent years. Then Dave and Gerrie received a timely gift——$7,000,a legacy (遗产) from their neighbors Ish and Arlene Hatch, who died in an accident . ;It really made a difference when we were going under financially.” says Dave.

But the Fusses weren’t the only folks in Alto and the neighboring town of Lowell to receive unexpected legacy from the Hatches. Dozens of other families were touched by the Hatches’ generosity. In some cases, it was a few thousand dollars; in other, it was more than $100,000.

It surprised nearly everyone that the Hatches had so much money , more than $3 million—they were an elderly couple who lived in an old house on what was left of the family farm .

Children of the Great Depression, Ish and Arlene were known for their habit of saving. They thrived own (喜欢) comparison shopping and would routinely go from store to store, checking prices before making a new purchase .

Through the years, the Hatches paid for local children to attend summer camp when their parents couldn’t afford it. ;Ish and Arlene never asked if you needed anything,” says their friend Sand Van Weelden, ;They could see things they could do to make you happier, and they would do them.

Even more extraordinary was that the Hatches had their farmland distributed. It was the Hatches’ wish that their legacy——a legacy of kindness as much as one of dollars and cent ——should enrich the whole community (社区) and last for generations to come.

Neighbors helping neighbors ——that was Ish and Arlene Hatch’s story .

  68. Why would the Hatches routinely go from store to store?

  A. They decided to open a store

  B. They wanted to save money

  C. They couldn’t afford expensive things

  D. They wanted to buy gifts for local kids

69 According to Sandy Van Weelden, the Hatches were

  A. understanding B. optimistic C. childlike D. curious

70 What can we learn from the text?

  A. The community of Alto was poor.

  B. The summer camp was attractive to the parents.

  C. Sandy Van Weelden got a legacy form the Hatches.

It’s a Saturday night —what is a group of friends to do? They could go out to a bar or pub, they could enjoy a good meal or they could go to a club. That’s what may have happened a few years ago. However, new research has shown that three times as many Britons would rather stay in and cook a meal for friends than have a wild night out. These people are being described as the Stay Home and Entertain Friends (SHEF) brigade(队,组).

Mark is an IT manager from Manchester and could be described as a SHEF. ;I like to socialize with my friends, but going out every weekend can be really expensive. We’ve found another choice; head to the local pub for one or two drinks, then go back to one of our homes for food, drink and some music. Much less trouble and more fun than going into the city center and struggling to get a taxi at 2 a.m.!”

The survey also found that twice as many men as women associated romance with home-cooked, candlelit dinners with their partners, claming that this was a perfect way for a great Saturday night.

According to another study by insurance company More Than, people are also turning to their homes as a source of entertainment and a shelter from the stress of modern living. The new ;staying in” culture is driving increased spending on home improvement and entertainments systems within the home. Many people in the UK have set up home cinemas with plasma screen(等离子屏幕)televisions, satellite televisions and DVD players.

Maybe, soon the popularity of this trend of staying in will decline and going out will become the new staying in!

  71. What would be the best title for the text?

  A. Trends in Britain Are Always Changing. B. Staying in Is the New Going Out.

  C. Staying in or Going Out? D. Stay in and Enjoy the Romance.

  72. A SHEF is a person who _________.

  A. is very generous to a friend

  B. tries to save money by having meals at home

  C. entertains a friend at home

  D. invites a friend out for entertainment

  73. It can be learned from the text that men prefer to stay at home because _________.

  A. they feel more pressure from modern life

  B. they like the romantic atmosphere with their partners

  C. they don’t like to socialize with their friends at weekends

  D. their partners don’t like them to go out

  74. The author thinks that _________.

  A. the popularity of this trend of staying in will be increased as time goes on

  B. people needn’t go out with everything at home

  C. people will have different trends at different times

  D. the trend of staying in will stay fixed for a long time

  75. The underlined phrase ;staying in” in the last sentence of the passage probably means _________.

  A. experience B. force C. SHEF D. trend

  第Ⅱ卷(共45分)

  第四部分 书面表达(共两节,满分45分)

  第一节 阅读表达(共5小题,每小题3分,满分l5分)

Many students want to find friends on the Internet as a way of practising their language skills and learning more about new cultures. Traditional pen pals were the primary source for such contacts, and students could write each other letters. With the Internet, finding friends has become much easier, and such relationships are called key pals.

However, care and consideration should be given when finding friends on the Internet:

◎Search the Internet for reputable(有信誉的) services. Look for reviews of such sites to learn more about other students’ experiences. Don’t join a service until you have done your research.

◎Check to see if you can use a nickname, instead of __________, to protect your identity.

◎Never give personal information to anyone, including your home address, phone number, and birthday.

◎Stop contact with others if you feel uncomfortable with the topics of conversation. Again, if you protect your identity, this will be easier to do. Tell your teachers, parents, or even local law enforcement if problem arise.

◎Try to use the language you are studying in the classroom in your communication with others.

◎Ask appropriate questions that will also help you learn about other cultures. Remember that someone’s personal experience might help you to understand a whole culture. You have to talk to many different people, and this will get you started.
